GAD TRAINING ON PUNI MAKING HELD AT THE BATAAN TOURISM CENTER Last, July 12, 2016, the Department of Tourism Region III (DOTR3) in cooperation with the Provincial Tourism Office of Bataan, conducted a Gender and Development (GAD) Training on Puni Making held at the Bataan Tourism Center. A total of 35 participants came from the Local Government Units, beneficiaries of 4Ps, businessmen and different sectors of the society such as Solo Parent, Kalipi, Out of School Youth (OSY), Kabalikat and Persons with Disability (PWD). The seminar started with a Welcome Remarks from the dynamic Provincial Tourism Officer, Arch. Christina B. Banzon followed by an Inspirational Message from Ms. Soledad Tayson of DOT R3.

The first lecture was conducted by Ms. Rossana Verdida of POPCOM – Bataan who tackled about the importance and awareness of Gender and Development. The training was facilitated by the Puni De Malolos headed by Ms. Nicanora Teresa Santiago Hernandez. The topics were Basic Puni Making Techniques, Palaspas Design and Accessories Making and Palaspas Masterpiece. The workshops ended with the presentation of masterpieces and a thank you response came from its attendees, particularly from Kalipi, PWD and OSY. Through this initiative, we aim to help and empower the community and be part of the tourism growth and development. Learning this unique craft of weaving will not only produce souvenir items, festival decors or product packaging, but will also revive a dying art of the country. ‪#‎bataan‬
