Walk for Bataan’s Bravest!
Hey beloved Bataan! Let’s put our feet to the pavement for a cause that runs deep in our history! The Freedom March is back, and once again we are commemorating the sheer, indomitable bravery of every soldier and civilian who fought during WWII, especially those who walked the Bataan Death March. The province of Bataan has always been synonymous with gallantry, honor, and courage. During the Second World War, Filipino and American troops fought, side by side and made one of history’s greatest last stands in the Battle of Bataan. That conflict was a testament to bravery in the face of impossible odds. Very few of our countrymen from that time are with us today. Each survivor is a living reminder that the liberties we enjoy today were paid for by their sacrifices. Onofre Buan Bugay Sr., a native of Samal, is a hero among us. He served as a war post commander in his town, and fought against the Japanese in WWII. Upon his return to civilian life, Mr. Bugay went into farming and also drove his own passenger tricycle. He turned 103 in May of this year.
We invite the people of this noble province to once again commemorate the valor of your ancestors. Join Freedom March 2026, and celebrate the courage that runs through your veins!
Freedom March is an annual commemorative and educational trek. Participants get to come together and traverse the actual path that our brave World War II heroes walked during the infamous Bataan Death March. The route begins at Kilometer Zero, Mariveles Park in Bataan and ends in Capas National Shrine in Tarlac. This event is produced and organized by Philippine Veterans Bank (PVB) in partnership with Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO), Department of National Defense (DND), and the local governments of Bataan, Pampanga, and Tarlac.
