Today, as we celebrate National Flag Day, we commemorate the first time the Philippine flag was unfurled after the Battle in Alapan in 1898. It was a moment of triumph and unity, symbolizing our nation’s hard-won freedom as well as the bravery of those who fought for our independence. Let us honor this legacy by upholding the values our flag represents: courage, justice, and love for country.
From May 28 to June 12, we observe Flag Days, a time when we are encouraged to display the Philippine flag in government offices, schools, businesses, and even our homes. It’s a simple act, but a powerful reminder of our shared identity and the sacrifices made for our liberty. Let’s raise our flags with pride and let it wave as a symbol of our unity, resilience and love for the country.
Today, we proudly honor the symbol that unites us all, the Philippine flag. More than just a piece of cloth, it tells the story of our struggle for freedom, the dreams of our forebears and the hope we carry into the future.

In celebration of the National Heritage Month, the Department of Tourism – Region III successfully held a three-day Cultural Tourism Development Workshop on May 20-22, 2025 at the Bliss Hotel Dau, Mabalacat City, Pampanga. Through collaborative activities and interactive discussions of participants from various tourism sectors in Central Luzon, the workshop highlighted the vital role of Local Government Units in leading cultural tourism efforts, from embracing core principles to crafting sustainable strategies that preserve and promote our rich heritage.
DOT-III Regional Director Richard G. Daenos addressed the importance of sustainability in the continuing efforts of the participants to develop their cultural tourism products, encouraging them to continue to engage with local communities, to protect the environment, and to safeguard our heritage. He leaves a challenge to the participants to transform marketing to finding meaning, preservation to participation, and policy to a sense of pride. The resource speaker, Mr. Billy Ray Malacura, closed with a quote from the late Susan Calo-Medina to invite them to continue to get to know their localities through conversations with the community: “Wag maging dayuhan sa sariling bayan.”
The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) enjoins everyone to proudly display the Philippine National Flag from May 28 to June 12 in observance of National Flag Days, as mandated by Republic Act No. 8491, also known as the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines.
