  • From a simple idea to a festival worth experiencing

From a simple idea to a festival worth experiencing

Every great production starts somewhere. Sometimes, it starts with a simple idea. Then come the plans, the people, the details, the unexpected challenges, and eventually, the moment when everything comes together. That was the story of Day 3 of the 3-Day Festival Production Management Workshop held on September 17, 2026. For the final day, participants moved from learning to doing through the Production Management Toolkit and the “Produce the Show” workshop. Working together, they developed hypothetical production projects and prepared the documents and plans needed to bring their ideas to life.

Putting their learnings into action, the participants were divided into two groups: Group Tawid-an Festival and Group Kahusaysayan. Each group developed their own production concept and presented their work, bringing together the different elements of production management they had learned throughout the workshop. The real test came in the afternoon, as each group presented their work for critique and feedback from resource speakers Mr. Nilo Agustin, Mr. Matthew Manalaysay, and Director Jose Christe Nombres, together with Ms. Danica Lolita C. Tigas, Ph.D., Acting Provincial Tourism Officer. The workshop also ended on a celebratory note as the participants’ hard work and creativity were recognized through the following awards:

🏆 Best Production Management — Group Tawid-an Festival
🏆 Best Male Performer — Tomas Pinpin
🏆 Best Female Performer — Geraldine Roman
🏆 Best Direction — Group Kahusaysayan
🏆 Best Backstage Management — Group Tawid-an Festival
🏆 Best Overall Presentation — Group Kahusaysayan

From understanding what happens behind the scenes, to learning how to manage the details, and finally putting ideas into a complete production plan, the workshop reminded us that every memorable festival begins with a vision—and the people who are willing to bring that vision to life.

Day 2 of the 3-Day Festival Production Management Workshop

On September 16, 2026, Day 2 of the 3-Day Festival Production Management Workshop brought together local artists, tourism officers, and tourism stakeholders for another day of learning, sharing, and exchanging ideas. With resource speakers Mr. Leonilo C. Agustin, Mr. Matthew T. Manalaysay, and Mr. Jose Christe Nombres, participants explored the different elements that come together to create a festival—from the ideas behind it to the experiences we want visitors and communities to take home.

Day 2 took a closer look at what happens behind the scenes. Participants learned about Technical Production Management, covering important elements such as set design, lighting, audio, video, LED screens, trussing and rigging, special effects, props, costumes, and the production crew.
The discussions also went into Backstage and Stage Management Systems, where participants gained insights on prompt books, cue sheets, call times, backstage protocols, green rooms, technical riders, scene changes, and handling unexpected production challenges.

And of course, learning doesn’t stop with lectures. Through the Production Crisis Exercise, participants were given the opportunity to put their learning into practice and work through situations that can happen during an actual festival. Because a successful festival is not only about what the audience sees. A lot of the magic happens behind the curtain—with people making sure every detail, cue, performance, and moment comes together.
Day 2 done. One more day to go!

    3-Day Festival Production Management Workshop

In Bataan, every celebration is a chance to share a piece of who we are. Through festivals, visitors get to see the colors of our culture, taste our local flavors, meet our communities, and discover the stories that make a place worth coming back to.

On September 15, 2026, the Provincial Tourism Office, in partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT), officially began the 3-Day Festival Production Management Workshop, bringing together local artists, tourism officers, and tourism stakeholders for three days of learning, collaboration, and shared experiences.

Guiding the participants throughout the workshop are resource speakers Mr. Leonilo C. Agustin, Mr. Matthew T. Manalaysay, and Mr. Jose Christe Nombres, who are sharing their knowledge and insights on festival production and management.

The first day of the workshop marks another step toward strengthening the way we plan, develop, and manage festivals in Bataan. Through learning sessions, discussions, and shared experiences, tourism stakeholders are given the opportunity to deepen their understanding of what makes a festival not only enjoyable but meaningful, well-organized, sustainable, and truly reflective of the destination.

Because behind every lively parade, music, and celebration are people working together to tell the story of a place. And here in Bataan, we want every story to be worth experiencing. Together, let us continue to celebrate what makes Bataan special.
